Gabriela Seifert-Kavan

em. o. Univ.-Prof. Dipl.-Ing.

Gabriela is an architect and artist with a trans-disciplinary, conceptual approach to art and architecture. She was the head of the institute of studio2 at the faculty of architecture at Innsbruck University. She has also been a teacher and lecturer at many other universities, including East London University, RMIT, UTS Sydney, Politechnico di Milano, UTA Arlington and others. Since 1984 she has been working with Goetz Stoeckmann as formalhaut and until 2010 as seifert.stoeckmann architects. Their living room house has been widely published, screened and exhibited i.e. at the Venice Biennale in 2004 and awarded Mies Van der Rohe prize finalist. They were the winners of the 1st Baukunstpreis der Stiftung Städelschule in 2012. As artists, formalhaut engage with the question of space in its fundamental meaning; experimenting with vessels, tents and lightworks. They propagate an autonomous, sensuous architecture which they call space without function. The book trilogy “dim diary – the erosion of boundary” is currently in the making.
