„Everything connects—people, ideas, objects…the quality of these connections is the key to quality per se”. – said Charles Eames in the 70s and thus hits the core of architectural and design thinking and we want to also include to this quote nature and ultimately the entire cosmos.
Architecture has always been world-making in the sense that concepts for living spaces, cities and landscapes are imagined, formulated, contextualized and materialized. The basis for this are models: of thinking, of acting, models of society and living space, of orders and structures, of real and speculative scenarios that are part of the design process.
These thought models or aspects of them often come from other contexts, from art and science, from traditions, rituals or narratives. They can be real and physical, or immaterial, imaginary and atmospheric. Consciously or unconsciously, they influence the creative work, are transformed, individualized and thus form the personal handwriting, the expression, the very own model universe.
According to Eames, quality lies in the quality of the connections themselves, namely between immaterial spirit and matter, and the design work creates quality by materializing it in objects, spaces and environments.
With this in mind, we have invited personalities to the symposium to speak about their model universes, about what shapes their ideas, their architectural and artistic work and how it finds expression.
